Lady Gaga Goes Acoustic on 'Poker Face'
Wednesday, 07 January 2009
Lady Gaga performs Poker Face

Lady Gaga
’s debut single ‘Just Dance’ is expected to occupy the number 1 spot on both sides of the Atlantic this Sunday – don’t say we didn’t warn you six months ago that this would happen!

In WAPS’ opinion, her next single ‘Poker Face’ deserves to have the same impact – but if you thought she was all electro and no trousers, check out this acoustic rendition of ‘Poker Face’ performed during a recent visit to the Cherry Tree House.

Actually it’s nowhere near as good as the original so hopefully this won’t put you off…

Eminem: Crack a Bottle featuring Dr. Dre and 50 Cent (new song)
Wednesday, 07 January 2009
Eminem is back with his first new material since 2004's mega-selling 'Encore'. The leaked track 'Crack A Bottle' is taken from his forthcoming 'Relapse' album, but has Mr Mathers waited too long to re-enter the pop fray?

The song has an undeniable hook - not to mention appearances from Dr Dre and a singing 50 Cent - but have the likes of Lil' Wayne, Kanye and T.I. stolen his thunder? Will the kids understand a hip hop record with no auto-tune?

Only time will tell...Check out 'Crack A Bottle' here.

Vistoso Bosses' 'Delirious' Gets The Video Treatment
Wednesday, 07 January 2009
Vistosos Bosses

Way back in September we wrote about the fresh pop/R & B duo Vistoso Bosses, whose rather lovely 'Delirious' caught our attention one late summer afternoon. And then we forgot about them a bit. Until now!

Back then they only had a couple of homemade YouTube videos to their name - but if the new clip for 'Delirious' is anything to go by, they've finally had some major label cash lavished upon them.

Our only quibble with the video is this: Is that supposed to be a school bus? If so, why are all the people who aren't Vistoso Bosses clearly about 30-years-old?

Still, great tune.  Nice and melancholy for these cold days.

Mariah: The Ballads

Brace yourselves for some full-on emotion: Mariah Carey - perhaps inspired by her recent performance on the UK’s X Factor - has re-recorded her mega-ballad ‘Hero’. We don’t know why either, but the new version appears on ‘Mariah: The Ballads’, released January 20th in America.

The album features 18 of Mariah’s biggest slowies including “One Sweet Day”, “Vision of Love”, “Always Be My Baby” and “Dreamlover.” How are the last two ballads?!

Watch the “Hero” video below. Cute doggy!

Tuesday, 06 January 2009

Someone give this girl a day off!

Fresh from yesterday’s reports that she has (possibly) become engaged to boyfriend Chris Brown, the pop superstar has also recorded a brand new track with the beau in question.

Rihanna and Chris Brown’s ‘Bad Girl’ has leaked all over the internet and is apparently produced by producer-du-jour Polow da Don.

It is believed the song may be a cut from the forthcoming Confessions Of A Shopaholic soundtrack.

We likey.

Kylie returns the favour to Paula Abdul: Boombox (new song)
Sunday, 04 January 2009
Paula Abdul to comeback with Boombox

It seems that after hooking up with American Idol colleague Randy Jackson on 2008’s ‘Dance Like There’s No Tomorrow’, Paula Abdul has been inspired to give singing a second shot. Her website now features a snippet of a new song called ‘Boombox’.

The song was apparently recorded by Kylie Minogue in 2003 for her album ‘Body Language’, but never used. A remixed version (mashed with ‘Can’t Get You Out Of My Head’) was used during her X2008 tour, while the LA Riots remix will appear on her new remix album of the same name.

Funny enough, it was Paula Abdul who co-wrote Kylie’s single ‘Spinning Around’, allowing the Aussie to make a spectacular comeback. Perhaps this time around Paula will have her big (musical) comeback with a Kylie leftover? Or perhaps not.

A Camp: Nina Persson releases new single
Sunday, 04 January 2009
A Camp: Colonia (new album)
Colonia, the new album by A Camp

Cardigans’ frontwoman Nina Persson returns with a new album from her countrified side-project A Camp. The band’s sophomore effort ‘Colonia’ will be released in Scandinavia on January 28th, followed by a February 2nd release for Europe and April 28th for North America. The album, produced by Nina with husband and film composer Nathan Larson, features appearances from ex-Smashing Pumpkins guitarist James Iha, Joan As Policewoman and Guided By Voices drummer Kevin March.

First single to hit the airwaves is ‘Stronger Than Jesus’, which sonically seems to pick up from A Camp’s eponymous debut and The Cardigans’ ‘Long Gone Before Day Light’. We’re loving the 80s retro vibe of the video, it’s oh-so-Abba.

‘Stronger Than Jesus’ is out on 19 January 2009

Madonna’s Spring 09 campaign for Louis Vuitton

Madonna for Louis Vuitton: new shots

The UK’s Observer has reported on a growing trend in the fashion world for using older models in advertising campaigns. One example given is Louis Vuitton’s Madonna shoot, which featured our Madge as “the ultimate Parisienne”.

And that’s not all - here she is in some new shots for Vuitton’s Spring/Summer 09 campaign. We wonder if ‘the ultimate Parisienne’ is capable of wearing trousers? Because we haven’t seen Madonna in a pair for months. Put your gusset away, love. Cheers.
